Gastric Sleeve

The Gastric Sleeve, also called Sleeve Gastrectomy, is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together with surgical staples to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach. The procedure is performed laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) and is not reversible.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass is considered by the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and the National Institute of Health to be the gold standard of weight loss surgery, and the single most successful procedure for excess weight loss and long-term weight control. The surgery has been performed by laparoscopic methods since 1997, which results in smaller incisions, less pain and scarring, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and reduced risk of internal organ damage and infection when compared to the traditional open incision technique.

Gastric Band

Gastric Band surgery is an adjustable surgical treatment for morbid obesity. It induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach, which restricts the amount of food that can be consumed and increases the time it takes for food to be digested.

Intragastric Balloon

The Intragastric Balloon is designed to provide short-term weight loss therapy. The silicone balloon is placed endoscopically and filled with liquid so it partially fills the stomach and creates a feeling of fullness. Six months is the maximum time a balloon can be left in place, after which it must be removed.

Duodenal Switch

A weight loss surgery procedure that is composed of a restrictive and malabsorptive aspect. The restrictive portion of the surgery involves removing 70% of the stomach along the greater curvature. The malabsorptive portion of the surgery reroutes a lengthy portion of the small intestine, to create two separate pathways and one common channel. The objective is to reduce the amount of time the body has to capture calories from food in the small intestine.
