Moscow MedShow February 2015

Moscow MedShow: Medical Tourism from Russia
With a backdrop of continued international political tensions, the 4th Moscow MedShow opened on February 27th with considerable trepidation. However all apprehension dissolved as a steady stream of visitor appeared and continued over the two days.

The Moscow MedShow was established 2 years ago to cater for the increasing number of Russian patients looking for treatment abroad. It is now recognised that more than 70,000 Russians travel abroad each year for a variety of medical treatments valued in excess of US$.1.4 billion annually.

The 4th Moscow MedShow welcomed 64 exhibiting organisations representing 16 countries including Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, India, Korea, Latvia, Monaco, Poland, Switzerland and Turkey.

The Friday saw a stronger emphasis on B2B with Russian agents and facilitators attending in addition to public visitors. There had been concerns that the visitors would be affected by the currency devaluation but it appears that the old adage of not trusting savings to Russian banks continues with most enquiries being handled in Euro or Dollars.

The Saturday again saw a constant flow of good potential patients and their families. Whilst medical treatment is improving in Russia there remain many limitations and the exhibitors at the MedShow were fielding a variety of enquiries covering all aspects of medical treatment abroad.

In total 2,985 visitors attended over the 2 days providing the exhibitors with substantial potential to increase their business from Russia.

The next Moscow MedShow takes place 18-19 September 2015.
